This page compiles measured heat resistance, lightfastness and oil absorption data for 64 industrial organic pigments from TRESAI Chemical technical data sheets. It is a complete public fastness comparison for C.I.-indexed organic pigments across ink, coating and plastic applications, grouped by color family and linked to the full specification of every grade.

How to Read This Data

Heat Resistance

Heat resistance states the maximum processing temperature a pigment tolerates for short dwell without significant shade change or strength loss. Match this value against your extrusion, injection or curing temperature, not against ambient service temperature, and allow a margin for reprocessing cycles.

Lightfastness (Blue Wool Scale)

Lightfastness is rated on the Blue Wool Scale from 1 (poor) to 8 (outstanding), measured per ISO 105-B02. Grades rated 7-8 or 8/8 are suitable for long-term outdoor exposure; ratings of 5 or below target indoor or short-life applications.

Oil Absorption

Oil absorption (g oil per 100 g pigment, per ISO 787-5) predicts binder demand in inks and coatings. Lower values keep viscosity and cost down in high-load formulations; higher values indicate finer particles with stronger tinting strength but higher vehicle demand.

Application columns are normalized from TRESAI technical data sheet application fields: Ink covers offset, solvent, water-based, NC and UV printing inks; Coating covers industrial, automotive, architectural and powder coatings; Plastic covers masterbatch and engineered resins; Textile covers textile printing and dyeing. A dash means the grade is not listed for that field on its technical data sheet.

Data compiled from TRESAI Chemical product technical data sheets, 2026. Values are typical test results; confirm against the TDS of the specific grade before production use.

Chemical Classes Across the 64 Pigments

The 64 grades group into 21 chemical classes. Class chemistry predicts solvent fastness, migration behavior and outdoor durability before any lab test: phthalocyanines anchor the blue and green families, benzimidazolones deliver 200–300 °C heat resistance in yellows, oranges and reds, and metal-salt azo lakes serve economy ink ranges with brilliant shades.

Selection Guidance

Processing temp? ≤ 200 °C — azo grades ≥ 250 °C — see table PY12/13/14, PR2/8... Phthalo, quinacridone, DPP

Choose by Processing Temperature

Filter the table to grades whose heat resistance exceeds your peak process temperature by at least 20 °C. Pigment Blue 15:6 reach the highest heat resistance in this compilation (310 °C), covering engineering plastics and high-temperature coatings.

Choose by Lightfastness Requirement

Specify 8/8-rated grades for automotive, facade and outdoor signage applications. Pigment Blue 15:1, Pigment Blue 15:2, Pigment Blue 15:3, Pigment Blue 15:4, Pigment Blue 15:6 and other high-performance grades achieve the maximum 8/8 Blue Wool rating in this dataset.

Choose by Oil Absorption Budget

Oil absorption across the 64 grades spans 30–55 g/100g. High-load offset and packaging inks favor the lower end — Pigment Yellow 3 sit at 30 g/100g — while full-shade industrial coatings can absorb the vehicle demand of higher-oil grades.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the most heat-resistant organic pigment in this comparison?

Pigment Blue 15:6 hold 310 °C — the highest heat resistance among the 64 grades compiled on this page.

Which organic pigments have the best lightfastness?

Pigment Blue 15:1, Pigment Blue 15:2, Pigment Blue 15:3, Pigment Blue 15:4, Pigment Blue 15:6 and other high-performance grades reach 8/8 on the Blue Wool scale (ISO 105-B02), the maximum lightfastness in this compilation, making them the primary candidates for outdoor and automotive applications.

How should I use oil absorption values in formulation?

Use oil absorption to estimate binder or vehicle demand: in this table values range from 30 to 55 g/100g (ISO 787-5). Lower values support higher pigment load at workable viscosity; higher values signal finer particles and higher tinting strength per gram.

Which chemical classes are covered in the 64-pigment comparison?

The 64 grades span 21 chemical classes, led by phthalocyanine (9 grades), diarylide disazo (7 grades) and benzimidazolone (8 grades); the chemical class overview table on this page gives the full breakdown.

How many pigments in the table are suitable for plastics?

30 of the 64 grades are listed for plastic applications (masterbatch and engineered resins) in their technical data sheets, including Pigment Blue 60, Pigment Blue 15:1, Pigment Blue 15:3, Pigment Green 7 (B).
